There are paid opportunities within the programme, remunerating pre-defined items for the Community Support Services store.
● Program Overview
What You’ll Learn
Participants will build practical sewing skills, learning how to work confidently with different fabrics, follow patterns and use essential tools and techniques. With clear guidance from experienced instructors, they’ll develop solid foundations, improve their accuracy and gain the confidence to complete sewing projects from start to finish.
12 Week Course
Date: TBC
Program Structure
Daily classes guide participants through core sewing skills, from using a machine safely to working with patterns and assembling finished pieces. Small class sizes ensure plenty of hands-on support and personalised instruction. Instructors focus on building strong technical foundations while keeping sessions engaging and achievable.
Paid Opportunity
Participants will be paid for the items they produce that meet our quality standards for sale, ensuring their skills and craftsmanship are recognised. All materials and equipment are provided at no cost, allowing participants to focus on producing their best work.
Session Lengths
Sessions are held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with a minimum commitment of one day per week, making it easy to build skills while balancing other commitments. Each session offers structured, hands-on learning with plenty of time to practise and complete projects. Whether someone joins for a short period or attends regularly over several weeks, they’ll gain practical sewing experience in a supportive, creative environment.
Eligibility
Our sewing program is open to everyone, regardless of experience level - beginners, hobbyists, and skilled makers are all welcome. The program is designed to support those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Participants simply need to have valid working rights in Australia. Sessions are designed to support a wide range of abilities, ensuring that each person receives guidance suited to their skill level and goals. The environment is friendly, inclusive, and welcoming to everyone.
